Rothmans Premier League for Sunday
and Monday
With the visit of the German Champions, Bayern Munich, the Rothmans
Premier League takes a break on Saturday, and matches will be
played on Sunday and Monday.
Saturday's games are reserved for the teams which are fighting
it out for survival in the Premier League while those to be played
on Monday concern the teams which are vying for the title or for
a European place.
Xghajra
T. vs Naxxar L.
For Xghajra Tornadoes this may be the last chance for Premier
League survival. Still without a win, Xghajra need to bag some
points to start the second phase of the league with some bonus
points. The good news for the bottom of the table club is that
some of their players will be returning to the fold now, notably
Robert Agius, who was suspended.
Despite everything, the Lions start as favourites to bounce back
from their defeat against Rabat last week. Internal trouble with
players likely to be on the move is not helping Naxxar's cause.
Hamrun
S vs Rabat A
On paper, this may not look much of an interesting match, but
it may end up being one of the best for the weekend. A win for
Hamrun would practically guarantee their place among the top six,
while a win for Rabat would give the Magpies a morale boost in
their relegation battle.
Hamrun are losing all matches against the big guns. Their problem
is in attack and they are definitely missing striker, Paul Zammit.
They also have to keep up their momentum having performed well
in the first half against Valletta but crumbling on resumption
when the Citizens started to exert some pressure. After beating
Naxxar, Rabat may be a hard nut for Valletta to crack.
Hibernians
vs B'kara
The Champions are finding life tough at the top. Who wouldn't
when losing players of the quality of Ivan Zammit and more recently
Chucks Nwoko? If they do not strengthen their squad immediately,
the Stripes may be in for a hard season. They still have some
fine players in their ranks, such as Joe Brincat, Michael Spiteri,
Michael Cutajar and Djorde Pintac.
This may be a good test for Marinov's men against a side whom,
on the day, are as good as anyone.
Floriana
vs Sliema W
Floriana will be all out to avenge the 5-0 drubbing they got against
their old rivals, Sliema, in the Super 5 competition. There is
no better time to do it than next Monday when they face a Sliema
side without the services of defender Ian Ciantar and Zoran Antic,
both suspended.
Ciantar was unlucky to be sent off against Pietà last week
as he had never touched his opponent. "Bizu" may find
more space for his side, but Sliema feel that they have got enough
players to cope and might opt to play a back four of Martin Gregory,
Mark Anthony Bonnici, Luke Dimech and Sandro Zammit Fava.
