Malta shooting for $75m Ocean Warrior
this summer
cast
to include Pierce Brosnan, Aidan Quinn, Anne Heche, Martin Sheen
Following hot on the heels of Gladiator's pronounced success at
the Oscars, Vancouver's National Post yesterday reported that a
$75 million film is scheduled to commence filming in Malta this
summer.
Ocean Warrior, with a cast that includes Pierce Brosnan (a.k.a.
James Bond) and Aidan Quinn, is based on Greenpeace's efforts to
bring a halt to international whaling during the 1970s and 80s.
Additional roles are scheduled to be filled by other renowned actors
such as Billy-Bob Thornton, Anne Heche and Martin Sheen, however,
these may have to be re-cast, explains Ocean Warrior producer Pieter
Kroonenburg,
Montreal-based Kingsborough Greenlight Pictures has reportedly spent
more than $15-million on the movie and the company has gone to great
lengths to ease concerns about the film, allowing Greenpeace to
review drafts of the script and paying the organisation for the
right to use its name.
Filming was scheduled to have commenced last month, but was pushed
back due to the threat of an unrelated strike by US actors.
"We've bought boats and created animatronic and computer guided
whales. There has been an enormous amount of pre-production work,"
comments Mr Kroonenburg, "It's a terrific script."
