Mifsud elected: beats establishment’s candidate

The new President of the administrative council, Pieta’s Mayor Malcolm Mifsud was elected on Friday despite attempts by a core group with the PN to get Dr Michael Axiak on board.

Dr Axiak is seen as a representative of the establishment within the party.

Dr Mifsud was elected on the second count. The post of the President of the administrative council was the only post contested for.

This is the second time a contestant not supported by the core group has been elected.

Some weeks ago Dr Victor Scerri, beat Paul Borg Olivier to the post of President of General Council.

The other posts including that of Secretary General were uncontested.
