Worker wins
around Lm2,000 for political transfer
A government
worker was granted around Lm2,000 after an industrial tribunal
ruled this week that he was the victim of a political transfer.
The tribunal,
presided by Judge Carmelo Farrugia Sacco, heard that the applicant,
Joseph Delceppo, was unjustly transferred from the drainage section
between 1988 and 1995.
He also complained
that he was not awarded a promotion, which he felt he was entitled
to.
The tribunal
held that Delceppo did not follow all the procedures and failed
to attend the interview, and therefore he was not in a position
to expect a promotion. But it decided that he was unjustly transferred
from the drainage section on political grounds and was discriminated
against because he was a Labourite, while his superior had different
political beliefs.
The tribunal
awarded him the money he had lost by way of allowance due to the
unjust transfer.
