Union warns over pensions reform

Speaking to MaltaToday, General Workers’ Union secretary General Tony Zarb said that they were the only union that had reacted to the Pension reforms commission.

The General Workers’ Union warned yesterday that the implementation of the Commission’s proposals was a throwback to the Thatcher years in the 1980’s. The union said the Commission’s proposal would undermine pensions in Malta.

Mr Zarb said that the proposals made by the Pensions reforms commission was a replica of what had been suggested way back in the UK. The GWU chief cited the current paltry income from state pensions in the UK as an example.
