Sliema continue to impress

Following their win against Neptunes, Sliema continued to confirm their potential when they defeated Marsacala 10-4. Sliema were slow starters for this match and after the end of the first session, those present at Tal-Qroqq thought that they were in for a surprise. In fact they were losing 2-1 with the southseasiders playing the better waterpolo.

But Sliema came back to level terms at the end of the second session which they won by 2-1. But with a 4-4 score at the middle of the game, Sliema supporters started to get impatient. But then the game swayed the Blues way when John Paris exhibited his class. Sliema won the last two sessions 4-1 and 3-0.

For Sliema John Paris scored three and John Soler together with Matthew Pisani scored two. Clint Debono, Kurt Engerer and Francesco Cutajar scoring the rest.

Clint Mercieca scored two for the losers with Mario Zammit and John Licari scoring one goal apiece.

As expected Ta’Xbiex beat Gozitan side Otters in a match that was not as one-sided as expected. In fact Otters were practically always in the match and made a great comeback late in the game.

Ta/Xbiex goals were scored by Peter Paolella 2, Attard 2, while Simon Cachia, Anthony Cachia, Zammit, Schembri and Sciortino scored a goal apiece.

George Zammit scored a hat-trick for the Gozitans with the other coming from Mark Tabone 2, and David Zammit.

Meanwhile Champions Sirens will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the table today when they play Neptunes at 6.30pm. Neptunes, surely want to bounce back following their defeat against rivals Sliema last week.

Marsaxlokk should win with ease today when they play Birzebbuga at 5.30pm with San Giljan starting off as favourites Valletta in today’s first match of the programme which starts at 4.30pm.
