Senior officer faces magisterial inquiry

A magisterial inquiry had been ordered last January after serious allegations made against a very senior police officer.

The allegations are linked to sexual harassament accusations and as yet remain unfounded.

The inquiry is reported to have been sanctioned with the intervention of the Office of the Prime Minister. The nature of the allegations have been known to various Government and Opposition politicians for some time.

A Labour parliamentarian told MaltaToday that if proven true they would have a negative effect on the standing and the workings of the government and police.

A Nationalist backbencher who refused to be named said if it was true that the allegations were made, then government should have acted fast to ascertain the veracity of the allegations, and quash all unnecessary rumour.

The Labour press have been toying with the idea of publishing the allegations of the reported inquiry but were unwilling to do so. However, this seems to have changed after the Labour press sensed that other news media were investigating the story.
