Vassallo says that 12,000 support
this new feasible alternative
"We do not and will never have any ties to the lobbies which
herd the government from behind the scenes. Everybody has a right
to work to earn and enjoy his wealth. Nobody has a right to buy
the law."
These were
the words of 46-year-old Harry Vassallo, chairman of Maltas
Green party, Alternattiva Demokratika. He was addressing activists
at the annual general meeting held yesterday morning in Gzira.
After seasons
of internal turmoil, the party seems to have reinvigorated its
roots and appears optimistic about its future.
Dr Vassallo
told party activists: "Our support is three times greater
than ever before. Twelve thousand men and women and one tenth
of the countrys youth prefer AD to any other political party.
We have wrought the miracle no one wanted to believe."
His closing
speech was preceded by presentations from Mario Mallia, the outgoing
secretary general, and Arnold Cassola, who kicked off a debate
on Europe.
A resolution
was also passed which committed Alternattiva Demokratika to participating
in the next local council elections to be held in March.
