Attorney General Borg Barthet still
studying inquiry evidence
By

It has been more than a week since Magistrate Miriam Hayman concluded
the inquiry into allegations of attempted rape against former Police
Commissioner George Grech, but there has not yet been any indication
as to what course of action the attorney general will decide upon.
Contacted
by MaltaToday, Attorney General Anthony Borg Barthet said that
he is still studying the evidence collected by Magistrate Hayman.
He insisted that the inquiry is still confidential at this stage.
Prompted
by this newspaper, Dr Borg Barthet said that he was not going
to wait for the outcome of the Constitutional case before deciding
on the matter.
"I will
arrive at a decision as soon as is reasonably possible and will
not await the outcome of the Constitutional application filed
by Mr George Grech," Dr Borg Barthet said.
Although
Magistrate Haymans conclusions were not made public the
Labour media managed to get wind of the result. However, George
Grech himself confirmed the media reports while giving evidence
in the Constitutional case.
Magistrate
Haymans inquiry found that there was sufficient prima
facie evidence for George Grech to be prosecuted on charges
of attempted rape, misuse of public funds, misuse of the telephone
system, threat and blackmail.
