Anthrax scare resumes

Malta was once again caught in the grip of an anthrax scare yesterday when both the Luqa and Paola police stations received a suspect letter containing powder.

The Civil Protection Department took the necessary precautions and evacuated the two premises in what has recently become a routine operation.

The police have arraigned three people in connection with hoax anthrax scares. Criminal investigations into the spate of letters sent out to a number of public institutions, the American Embassy and the British High Commission, postal offices and individuals are ongoing.
