Police close roads to relieve Paceville traffic jams

The Police have announced a series of measures which will be taken on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve aimed at minimising traffic congestion in Paceville and its environs.

Three main routes have been selected for entry to Pacevile whilst three others have been earmarked as exit routes. Parking will not be allowed in a few selected roads, to allow a free flow of traffic. These include Wilga Street corner with Ball Street and corner with St George’s Road. Whilst the police do not wish to spoil the festive mood, it was unanimously agreed between the St Julians, Swieqi, Pembroke Local Councils, and the Paceville business community that the Police implementation of certain measures would lead to a safer and easier flow of traffic during the peak days of festivities.

Certain areas will be accessible only to residents and their guests provided identification documents are presented to allow the entry of vehicles. The police are encouraging the general public to make use of public transport and where possible pool resources in order to make use of as few private vehicles as possible. This will not only lessen traffic jams but also diminish the risk of collision. The Police Force has a contingency plan which will be put into action if required, but again the public is encouraged to avoid drinking and driving to diminish the risk of fatalities and accidents on our roads.
