Celebrities congregate to raise money for charity

Prospects for pledged donations for this years L-Istrina looked very good with Lm161,000 collected at 5pm with still six hours to go.

With a kick-off on Saturday afternoon for a total of 10 hours of non-stop entertainment, L-Istrina 2001 will benefit five different organisations, namely The Community Chest Fund, Federazzjoni Ghaqdiet Persuni b’Dizabilita, Oasi (Gozo), Equal Partners Foundation and Dar Merhba Bik.

During the programme the situation backstage was chaotic, to say the least. People from various walks of life and with varying degrees of importance and popularity were seen trooping in and out of the studios, to and from the various rooms set up to welcome one and all.

The programme was hosted by Joe Azzopardi and Valerie Vella.

Radju Malta was announcing the programme live on air as phone-calls were being taken by a troupe of 30 people who were on ‘call’ for an hour or so each.

While President de Marco’s wife, Violet prepared coffee the Archbishop was taking phone-calls.

With a variety of prizes to be won and a final grand prize of 2 cars and a trip for 4 to EuroDisney, TV spectators were guaranteed a great show – all in a good cause.
