Pullicino clarifies worries over Armier

The Labour Party is condemning alleged plans to build a village of 1,600 beach rooms on arable land, at Armier but Parliamentary Secretary told MaltaToday that only a draft action plan for the area has been prepared by the Directorate of Planning Authority.

"The PA has not discussed this plan yet, yet alone approved it. In fact the Authority will discuss this plan in the first week of January. Then it will be issued for public consultation. A final decision on which areas will be developed at Armier will then be expected to be taken by the end of April."

Moreover it appears the Labour Party’s quote of 53 acres of irrigated land is wrong since in a petition signed by farmers situated in the area, the total amount of arable and irrigated lands constitutes 24 acres of land being proposed for development.

In a reassuring statement Mr Pullicino said "Where there is irrigated land, I believe that the plan should be amended to safeguard this land."
