Sewage and fish farms top AD’s concerns at St Paul’s

Alternattiva Demokratika yesterday addressed problems faced by St Paul’s Bay resident in terms of sewage, fish farms and development as it outlined its main proposals for protecting the area’s coastal and marine environment.

Speaking on the thorny issue of fish farming in the area, AD Local Council candidate Camel Hili emphasised that fish farms should never be less than two nautical miles from the shore and should be constantly relocated to ease pressure on the seabed. He added that AD stands against any proposals for developing a yacht marina in the area.

AD also said that its participation in the local council would increase pressure on the government to find a solution to the area’s sewage outflow problem, which at once pollute the environment and discourage tourism.

Through a place on the Council, Hili explained that development in the area would be controlled, citing recent examples such as the Amazonia nightclub, which are regarded as eyesores in that they exceed the road level, while they also cause noise pollution and limited parking availability.
