Pawlu
Muscat to contest as independent
He still cares for the Malta Labour Party, but could not take
all the harassment from within the Labour Party, the party he
loved for 38 years. Its still like a family to him now.
Despite all this he is not ready to surrender and will contest
the local council elections as an independent candidate.
Pawlu Muscat had to step down as Mayor of Cospicua following
a vote of no confidence by the Labour Party Counsellors following
pressure from within the MLP to elect a Labour Mayor.
Mr Muscat who had said that there was rigging in the Labour
Party election for leadership between Lino Spiteri and Alfred
Sant, which favoured the latter, was not trusted any more by new
Labour.
A staunch Dom Mintoff supporter, Muscat had said that he did
not trust Alfred Sant because he did not agree with the way he
was running the country.
Pawlu Muscat thinks that his systematic shunning because of his
beliefs by the Labour Councillors has something to do with the
hierarchy of the MLP. "I am being sidelined in every way,
no-one is giving me information about what is happening, and this
to distract me and to make me resign.
"I will not do so, I still believe that I always gave my
contribution to the people of Cospicua 100 per cent. I am so sure
about all this that I am confident that contesting as an independent
will not hamper my chances of being elected again. I know that
I could do it because the Cospicua people know how hard I worked
for them.
Mr Muscat still believes in Labour principles and he agrees
that Dr Sant had to do something about the deficit but he does
not agree with his ways.
"You cant expect to solve the deficit problem by treating
everyone in the same way. You cant expect people with a
low income to carry the burden. There are people in this country
that earn thousands of Liri: doctors, lawyers, notaries etc. It
is not the worker who uses water to drink and take a bath that
you have to rely on the most taxwise. It is those who own massive
swimming pools and never dare to switch off the electricity."
Regarding Dom Mintoff, Muscat still despises the manner in which
Super 1 Radio worked against him.
