Labour
parliamentarian in favour of hunting at all times
The closed season should be removed from local hunting laws,
Labour MP Dr Adrian Vassallo told a MaltaToday journalist earlier
this week. Dr Vassallo, who until recently was himself a keen
hunter, stated that the hunting open season should not be determined
by legislation but should be left up to Mother Nature.
"Nature itself decrees that the hunting season should open
when birds are migrating over Malta. The season automatically
ends whenever Malta happens to be out of the migration path of
the species," the MP explained during an interview with Ramona
Depares.
Dr Vassallo added that apart from this, no further changes were
needed when it came to hunting laws. He conceded that a list of
protected species is necessary and that this deserves better enforcement,
but insisted that legislation regarding the closed and the open
season was superfluous.
"I agree that hunters should practise moderation but apart
from that, remove the closed and open seasons completely,"
he concluded.
