Green Party accuses MLP of environmental inconsistancy

VALLETTA - The Green Party yesterday went out of its way to point out the inconsistency of MLP environment spokesman Joe Mizzi. Mr Mark Causon was reacting to some statements made by Mr Joe Mizzi in Parliament. Mr Causon pointed out that " Conveniently Joe Mizzi has criticised the government and MEPA for granting permits to fish farms. Yet Joe Mizzi himself had voted in favour of the development of tuna pens belonging to Azzopardi Fisheries in St Paul’s Bay. Unlike the PN and the MLP, AD has been consistently opposing the Nationalist government and MEPA on this issue. AD has always opposed tuna penning and unsustainable fish farming because these are damaging the environment, tourism and the interests of sustainable fishing."

Mr Causon added that "The MLP, like the PN is also appeasing the hunting lobby despite the fact that the majority of the Maltese are against hunting. This shows that the MLP is more interested in votes rather than in environmental protection."

"In the national interest Joe Mizzi should present all the evidence he possesses to substantiate his very serious allegations. Otherwise Joe Mizzi’s allegations amount to a partisan attempt to score political points, rather than an act of responsibility towards the country."
