Union deal brings in more money for Enemalta workers

VALLETTA – The General Workers Union yesterday announced it had managed to achieve a new collective agreement for the workers at Enemalta corporation. In a meeting later this week, the GWU, along with the Metallurgic, Chemicals, Energy and Printing section of the union, and the Workers Committee, managed to conclude the Enemalta collective agreement.

Section secretary Gejtu Mercieca was at the head of the GWU negotiating table, whilst Enemalta was represented by Chairman Robert Ghirlando, N.R. Darmanin and Human Resources R. Vella.

The new agreement, valid up to December 2005, provide for a yearly increase in workers’ wages and a yearly bonus. The agreement also includes statutory increases that are given to workers as compensation for increases in the cost of living.

The workers will benefit from a variety of pay allowances. Confined allowances have also been improved, as well as production line allowances, roulette allowances and ‘on call’ allowances.

Agreement was also reached for the Enemalta Corporation not to change working hours and to stop work on a shift-basis.
