Toni Abela claims to have withdrawn candidature for MLP Executive
Four days after the closure of nominations for the various administration
and national executive posts in the Labour Party, the official
list of candidates was published yesterday, only that it contained
one slight quirk.
Lawyer cum TV presenter Toni Abela was listed as a candidate for
a member of the national executive despite him having withdrawn
the application earlier in the week.
Dr Abela told MaltaToday that he had submitted his nomination,
but later withdrew it.
The official list was only published yesterday after the MLP electoral
commission vetted all nominations.
Meanwhile, in a meeting of the MLP national executive it was decided
that party candidates, who had a right to sit on national executive
meetings, will not be allowed to do so anymore. This decision
was taken to try and curb leaks to the media, MaltaToday was told.
See interviews with the seven candidates for the post of Secretary
General on pages 8 & 9.
