Labour Party Secretary General election contest moves up a gear
The contest for one of the Labour Partys most powerful
positions started heating up this week when the names of those
contesting were announced. The names were made official yesterday
but, they were first carried Wednesday in our sister paper, The
Malta Financial and Business Times. The contest is not simply
one between the contestants but between factions or even godfathers
within the party. Alfred Sant and the recently elected deputies
Michael Falzon and Charles Mangion are both backing a different
horse, in what will probably prove to be a close cut
competition. The three front runners appear to be Alfred Grixti,
Wenzu Mintoff and Keith Grech, but anything can happen in politics.
If this were a matter of popular vote you could have your say,
but since it is not, you can only hope to influence the party
delegates who number around 900. The candidate with the most votes
is guaranteed a win. MaltaToday asked the contenders a set of
questions, all contenders with the exception of Dr Wenzu Mintoff
chose to answer the questions in some way or another.
