New case of child abuse surfaces at another institute
A new case of child abuse involving a priest and a boy at an
institute in Sliema has been reported to MaltaToday. The case
involved accusations of oral sex which eventually led to a severe
clash between the boy and the priest.
The boy has since left the institute. The naming of four priests
last week by MaltaToday brought equal praise and condemnation
from different segments of the public. The details of the latest
case are in MaltaTodays possession (see editorial on page
13).
The trend of mentioning priest involved in paedophilia has been
at the centre of much controversy, but it reached epic proportions
after revelations of widespread abuse in some institutes run by
Salesian brothers in the United States, which led to arrests and
finally convictions. Thankfully for the victims in the US, the
police authorities avoid treating priests with dainty gloves.
