The St Luke’s incinerator is still bellowing despite several promises in the past that it would be replaced. More than one year ago a tender process went awry after MaltaToday revealed that the top bosses of the supplying US firm where in prison or facing serious accusations in court.
A new tender process started this year, and twenty-five companies showed interest, but nearly a decade since the smoking chimney first became topical it still has not been replaced.
The government has no time-line for its replacement despite the fact that it contravenes Maltese law and EU Directives. Will it still be there come end 2005?
