I refer to the report by your journalist Karl Schembri about political discrimination in Malta. I would like to make two basic corrections to the article in question.
First, I was not “ousted by the MLP party delegates in November 2003”. I vacated my post of Secretary General after serving for about 13 years without ever being contested and this in itself is a great achievement. It is pertinent to point out that the Secretary-General is elected every year by the Party General Conference.
Secondly, the subjective assessment of me not being “the most media-friendly politico during his time in office” is based on a perception held by the author and is not based on the real facts. I had the best of relations with all the media, editors, journalists, contributors and analysts. Having the best relations does not mean that one has to lose his dignity but it means showing and expressing respect to each and everyone in a politically diverse environment.
Finally, I wish to thank all those who, in different shape and form, have expressed solidarity in my just cause.
