Greens launch electoral manifesto

Alternattiva Demokratika yesterday launched its local elections manifesto, pledging to open social centres and to launch waste separation schemes on a local level.
Announcing the party’s manifesto yesterday, Chairman Harry Vassallo said his party was proposing more pedestrian zones, time-restricted parking for non-residents as well as local public transport.
Local establishments that produce noise pollution would have to be sound-proofed, Vassallo promised, while councils would allocate “reasonable parking facilities” for non-residents working in the locality.
AD is in favour of more public recreational spaces, Vassallo said. His party will also ensure better accessibility to public buildings for people with disabilities, as well as open social centres which give access to computers, internet and newspapers.
Alternattiva also pledges to open Citizen Advice Bureaus which give free advice to citizens about several issues that affect them. These bureaus would also serve for citizens to file their complaints about their local councils as well as provide information on how to reduce energy consumption at home.
The party also favours the opening of day care centres for children of working parents, in conjunction with central government and the private sector.
AD said yearly council accounts would be sent to all residents to increase public scrutiny. It also pledged to work to give public land usurped by individuals back to the public.
