General Workers Union, Investments Ministry to resume talks tomorrow

Matthew Vella

Discussions between the General Workers Union and the Investments Ministry will continue tomorrow at 2pm as both sides still appear to be distant from agreement on the staff complement at the generation division at Enemalta and the aviation division.
Industrial action was halted late on Friday evening when the two sides agreed to enter into conciliatory discussions.
GWU deputy secretary-general Emanuel Micallef yesterday told MaltaToday that both sides were discussing an issue that should have long been decided upon. “We are thrashing things out. Now we have clearer viewpoints and government is interested in discussing.”
Micallef however said that both sides are still no close to any agreement. “We are still far away and it’s not as if we need just one final push. Sometimes the position held by the government tends to be a little bit too rigid. But there is a will for discussions to continue.”
