I refer to the story by Karl Schembri entitled ‘Former Mayor turns guns on Party’ published in the Sunday 20 March edition of MaltaToday.
As a re-elected councillor for St Venera in the last Local Council Elections, I was very much stunned and stupefied to read the very serious accusations and insinuations about my integrity by my former mayor and colleague. He complained that “…from the start of the campaign, two PN candidates started spreading lies about me...” and that these two were “…a man and a woman...” He also went on to say that this man and woman had “carried out a destructive campaign against me”.
I would like to declare that I have conducted my electoral campaign alone and in the most decent of manners. Mr Caruana and I have worked together for the last six years and by now he should know that I am a very outspoken person not the sort of person who would say anything behind anybody’s back. It is not the first time that I had criticised Mr Caruana and anybody else for that matter whenever I considered it necessary to do so. Backstabbing is not something I would ever resort to as I myself have been a victim of such cowardly acts in the past. As the Italian saying goes, ‘Al Buon Intenditor, poche parole’.
Having said this I would hereby most emphatically like to declare that my only aim in these elections was to be re-elected so that I will continue to be of service to all Vendrizi as I have done in the last six years
Charles Camilleri
