The Maltese Cultural Movement in the United Kingdom on behalf of thousands of its members and Maltese and Gozitan migrants wishes to publicly express its appreciation to the former Maltese High Commissioner in London, HE Dr George and Mrs Bonello du Puis for their excellent service rendered to the Malta in the United Kingdom and particularly to the unity amongst the Maltese and Gozitan migrants.
The six years spent in London were years that saw the creation of what now has become an established tradition amongst the Maltese and Gozitans in the United Kingdom, the Malta Day UK, the gathering once a year during the second Saturday in September. By means of this gathering, the beloved Our Lady of Victories feast, we the migrants who live in the United Kingdom can preserve and spread our religious and cultural heritage in our host country. Thanks to Dr George Bonello du Puis, the mind behind this feast, we, the Maltese and Gozitans in the United Kingdom can look forward to a certain future where our culture and traditions we treasure so much can continue despite not living in Malta.
Whenever possible Dr Bonello du Puis always attended activities by the migrant organisations in the United Kingdom, and his presence was always immensely appreciated. His speeches will be dearly missed, especially when he throws a joke of his. All good things must come to an end, but certainly his legacy has honoured Malta and he served her with best of his ability. Thank you Dr Bonello Du Puis!
