Swedish delegation’s positive visit

A high level delegation of seven district directors from the city of Stockholm recently had a three-day study and familiarisation visit in Malta.
The city of Stockholm had expressed interest in the visit and had asked the Department for Local Government organise a programme for the delegation. The main aim of this visit was to exchange experience, promote mutual understanding and look for possible areas of co-operation.
The seven directors forming the Stockholm delegation are responsible for important sectors such as health, education and care for the elderly.
The Department for Local Government led by the Director Mr Nathalino Attard organised an intensive programme for the visiting Stockholm delegation.
During the three-day visit the seven directors from the Stockholm city council had a presentation on the Public Administration by the Director for the Department for Local Government, Mr Natalino Attard during a meeting held at the department head office in Valletta.
The Swedish delegation also paid courtesy visits to the Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Justice and Home Affairs, Dr Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici and the Permanent Secretary in the same ministry Mr Charles Deguara. The city of Stockholm directors had other important meetings with a delegation from the Ministry of education led by permanent secretary Mr Charles Mizzi and with a delegation from the city of Valletta Local Council led by the Mayor Dr Paul Borg Olivier. The Stockholm delegation had other talks with the Association of Executive Secretaries of the Local Councils and with top officials from the Foundation for Tomorrow Schools.
During this three-day visit the Stockholm delegation also met with high level officials from the department for Social Services, Health, the Elderly and from the International and European Union Affairs sector.
Another meeting of interest for the Stockholm delegation was with the Honory Consular of Sweden Mr Karl Gollcher. The seven directors were also taken on a tour of the Mater Dei Hospital still under construction by the Swedish Group, Skanska.
During the three day intensive visit the Department for Local Government also organised cultural visits for the Stockholm delegation. The Swedish guests appreciated the riches of Maltese history and culture during visits to St John’s Co-Cathedral, several museums, Hagar Qim, Ghar Dalam, the City of Vittoriosa and Marsaxlokk. The Stockholm delegation was also taken on guided tour of Rabat Malta and visited the Jesuits Church, the L’Isle Adam Band Club and several Good Friday exhibits.
