Why I did not vote

I was one of the many Maltese and Gozitans who did not vote in the last round of local elections. Recently I was following horse races on television.
I was disgusted to see jockeys whipping horses without any mercy in order to win. One cannot but condemn these acts of shame. The authorities are not doing much to stop animal cruelty.
Harsher penalties should be introduced. The police should also enforce the law. These scenes of cruelty were not hidden but where transmitted in our homes. We cannot continue acting as if we are all blind, deaf and dumb.
As long as the competent authorities fail to show their goodwill in stopping animal cruelty I will never vote again. I will not be their accomplice. As proof of the seriousness of my intentions I am sending you my voting document for the last local elections. All those who love animals should use their vote wisely. If they do so, they will do as I have done and abstain. Only then will the powers that be appreciate the gravity of the situation.
