PBS Ltd, the station that is responsible for public service broadcasting in these islands, is promoting itself as being the most popular local station with 27 per cent viewership.
Believe it or not, those at the helm are also claiming that with this figure the national station, outdid all the other stations put together. What a feat. Should one expect the national station to do worse, and play second fiddle to the political stations, as, in fact, is the case with radio?
Rather than try to give the impression of success, in lieu of disaster and embarrassment, the PBS chairman and Co should worry about losing so heavily to the foreign stations. Is this not a perfect reflection of the quality of broadcasting? The least those responsible could have done, after such a poor result, was to tender their resignation.
I wonder what the minister responsible (and the Broadcasting Authority for all that matter) thinks of the results. On the other hand, had the minister felt that his chosen experts failed him yet again, surely he would not have hesitated to fire them, wouldn’t he?
