The 20-year-old murder victim found dead in a Marsa field Wednesday was last seen near the same spot a week earlier in an agitated state, saying that someone was running after him, sources have told MaltaToday.
“They’re running after me,” Simon Grech told people who saw him close to the site where he was eventually found dead.
MaltaToday is informed that the on the evening Grech was reported missing by his parents, on 7 April, their son was seen in Marsa, the town where he was found dead in an advanced state of decomposition seven days later.
The police have been interrogating people working and residing in Marsa over the past days in a bid to ascertain Grech’s final movements since he went missing on 5 April.
The police arrested three individuals last week, two of them Libyan nationals, but nobody has been arraigned in court so far.
Grech, a transvestite from Siggiewi who was undergoing drug rehabilitation, was believed by the police to have died soon after his relatives’ report, although investigators were more inclined towards the hypothesis of a drug overdose.
Around 20 stab wounds on Grech’s neck and abdomen however eliminated any doubts about the cause of his death.
The field where Grech was found by police during their search on site has been mowed and investigators kept searching for the weapon also in the nearby shipyards.
