The bad and the ugly in the Sliema Council

It is a shame how the current Sliema Local Council is probably the worst council Sliema ever had, and as a councillor myself, I am almost ashamed of being part of it. The council described as ‘the council that does nothing’, has now deteriorated to ‘the puppets of minister and private contractors’.
The few good councillors from other political parties are silenced by the PN councillors who use majority voting to implement their own agenda.
“We have elected Nationalist councillors that are working against us,” this was the cry of most Sliema residents that attended the recent meetings about the Qui-si-sana car park with the council.
What more proof does one need of this betrayal when the PN mayor and the PN vice-mayor voted against the right of consultation with the residents on the most controversial project in Sliema that is going to deteriorate the quality of residents daily lives? Is this how the PN councillors repay their constituents in Sliema?
Unfortunately, it seems indicated that Dr Gonzi’s leadership, perhaps unintentionally, is promoting division and detestation.
According to the media, the Prime Minister hosted his own PN party meetings with Sliema PN councillors at Castille. He never consulted with the democratically elected Sliema Local Council. In turn, the PN councillors themselves do likewise and hold closed-door meetings between themselves therefore isolating themselves from the Sliema Council and from the people.
The Sliema residents want all the elected councillors to be united, to represent them, to protect and safeguard them in accordance with the oath that the councillors had taken. This is certainly not the case in Sliema.
