What about the rights of children?

We are now in the 21 century and sometime ago the issue about the Children’s Act and the White Paper on domestic violence was again mentioned in our news and papers. What is happening now? Is the work being done at all?
We know it takes a lot of time to draft laws that are so important for people and society, but is it possible that the ‘system’ is really taking it so slow and easy? The children’s White Paper has become yellowish by now.
The children’s Act, the Act on domestic violence and also the law on fostering are extremely important, but especially the latter which is not being given enough importance by the media and society. In our opinion these laws are more important than Independence Day on 21 of September.
How can we say that we are independent when we do not even have our own laws? How can we teach our children and future generations, not to mention current generations what is right and wrong and about rights, if none are mentioned?
We would like to conclude by at least highlighting some of the positive changes that occurred in the past years such as the setting up of the Ministry for Social Policy and the Family; the introduction of the Commissioner for the Children, the Family Court and the video conference in courts to safeguard children. But good is not good enough when better is expected.
