Arguably Hollywood’s hottest asset Steven Spielberg is expected in Malta this week scouting for locations for his new film about the 1972 kidnapping of Israeli athletes at the Munich summer Olympics.
11 Israelis lost their lives in the tragedy after Palestinian Black September terrorists stormed the Olympic venue.
Nine hostages were killed in a botched rescue attempt at a military air base outside Munich, while Olympics officials carried on with the competition. Five of the gunmen and a German policeman also died. Three of the militants were captured alive.
Spielberg is expected in Malta as early as tomorrow or Tuesday and will return to spend four weeks filming in July.
The scriptwriters are Tony Kushner, Charles Randolph and Eric Roth while the actors are expected to be Eric Bana, who took over a role previously destined for Sir Ben Kingsley, Daniel Craig, and Marie-Josée Croze.
