A civilised society depends on proper court sentencing and just laws

I was very surprised lately when I read in our newspapers about the most lenient, ridiculous sentencing in our courts on ‘persons’ who commit crimes. I am referring to attacks (sometimes violent ones) on police officers, school-teachers, wardens or journalists, civil servants etc.
The punishment, say a Lm25 fine or suspended sentence is a real joke and this only encourages other irresponsible persons to commit similar crimes.
The punishment should be more severe and must be a deterrent say a shock minimum sentence of 3 months in prison and a fine.
