Gonzi does little to quell reshuffle rumours

Kurt Sansone

With a cheesy smile on his face, the Prime Minister yesterday would neither deny nor confirm that a Cabinet reshuffle was imminent when asked by journalists whether rumours of a ministerial changeover carried any truth.
Over the past few days rumours were rife in the corridors of power that Lawrence Gonzi was contemplating a major reshuffle to give his ailing government a boost mid-term through the legislature.
But when confronted with the rumours during his monthly media briefing yesterday, Gonzi said it was his prerogative as prime minister to decide on a reshuffle when he deems fit.
“I spend my day thinking about everything and I don’t eliminate anything,” Gonzi said when asked whether he was considering a reshuffle. The Prime Minister was quick to add he did not believe his ministers were anxious about a possible reshuffle, saying all were hard working.
