Alfred Sant has come to the rescue of Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici to enable him to speak to delegates before the forthcoming general conference, which is expected to approve the ratification of the EU.
As expected Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici is gate crashing the assemblies being held for Malta Labour Party delegates to discuss whether the party should approve the EU Constitution.
But when delegates started objecting for the presence of a “delegate who is not supposed to be here because he hails from another region,” Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici found the support of the leader of the party himself.
Alfred Sant himself intervened by declaring that he was ready “to close an eye” and allow Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici to participate.
The presence of Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici has conditioned these meetings. Former MLP deputy leader George Vella is concluding every meeting in order to refute the arguments being raised by Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici.
Last month the MLP had announced that six meetings would be held for MLP delegates to discuss the EU constitution. MLP secretary-general Jason Micallef had informed MaltaToday that Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici would only participate in one of the six meetings.
Contacted by MaltaToday Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici confirmed that it was Alfred Sant himself who instructed the party to allow him to participate in the assemblies. Asked whether other delegates are raising arguments against ratifying the constitution, Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici said that several delegates are expressing their concern.
