The Koperattiva Socjali FrancoSi Ltd will be benefiting from a three-year co-sponsorship by Middlesea Valletta Life (MSV). This sponsorship will enable the FrancoSi cooperative to develop its project for persons with disability.
During a recent visit to FrancoSi’s premises in Ghammieri, Qormi, Middlesea Valletta Life General Manager Mr David G. Curmi presented the first sponsorship cheque to Ms Lorraine Farrugia, a volunteer at the cooperative.
Mr Curmi said: “Middlesea Valletta Life is delighted to be offering its help to such a worthwhile project. The determination and perseverance of those responsible for FrancoSi is truly commendable. This project is an excellent example of a functional cooperative.”
The FrancoSi cooperative, whose President is Dr Elena Tanti Burlo’, consists of a team of dedicated people who work together to provide an inclusive environment for persons with disability. This project aims to offer a working environment for persons with disability, who currently are unable to find a job in the open market. It also aims to help them develop their psychosocial skills and to prepare them to lead a more autonomous lifestyle.
At FrancoSi workers grow crops using organic methods of farming. They pick, process, pack and sell their produce which is sold directly to consumers, supermarkets and restaurants.
The Koperattiva Socjali FrancoSi Ltd was set up by the Equal Partners Foundation in collaboration with Dar tal-Providenza and the College of Agriculture.
