After the summer break football is ready to start again, the local league has already started and Birkirkara have already showed us their superiority over Valletta. You might say it is too early to predict who will be the main contender this season, but I think Birkirkara will be Sliema’s biggest worry.
On the international scene, some leagues have already started and some are very close to starting. In Germany Bayern Münich have already started to show their dominance with a win in their first game in their new stadium. In the English league the usual favourites Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea are all in the running for the Premiership. I would put my money on Chelsea as they have a well balanced team and the players and manager are very confident. Jose Mourinho is the best manager in football today. Man Utd have a good team but are a step behind Chelsea. As for Arsenal, we still have to see what they can do without Patrick Vieira who has fit in very well with Juventus.
In the Serie A, like the English league, we have the usual three teams, Juventus, Milan and Inter. Last season if Inter did not draw half their games they would have been very close to winning the title. Juventus are still the favourites to win the Serie A title, but instead of Milan (who are still licking their wounds from the Champions League final disaster), Inter will be right behind Juventus as they have built a solid team (again) with some of Europe’s best players. And their latest signing of Figo, Samuel and Solari should give them the extra edge they need to keep ahead of Milan.
Now, what about the Champions League, my top three would be Chelsea, Barcelona and Juventus. Who would win from these three is a different story because after what happened with Liverpool and Milan, you can never say.
