As one of the many volunteers doing our best to give a helping hand at the Dar tal-Providenza homes at Siggiewi, I am in a position to experience at first hand the present unfortunate predicament at the homes.
The heartfelt appeal for funds made some two months ago by Mons. Lawrence Gatt, the Director at the Dar tal-Providenza, did result in prompting a number of benevolent contributors to make much-needed donations to the Homes.
Unfortunately donations have now once again petered out to a few meagre liri every day - nowhere near the Lm4,500 needed each day to cater for the many needs of the Homes' 120 residents.
It would be indeed unfortunate if this live testimonial to Maltese benevolence and generosity is constrained to downgrade the services it offers because of lack of financial support.
