Reference is made to the two letters published on 2 October 2005 on the subject.
I do not intend to reply to the letter by Edward Torpiano, as it is not worth wasting your readers’ and my time.
In the other letter, Mr N. Holland accused me that I was acting on my own on the matter, and I would like to ask him why he did not bother to show any interest in the matter until he was faced with the reaction of the residents?
Had he decided to participate in the process from the very beginning, that is, to accept the invitation by the Ministry of Investment and Information Technology to attend the presentation on the Valletta-Floriana traffic congestion strategy, as well as replying to the questionnaire issued by the same ministry, and to attend the meeting for the residents of Valletta-Floriana, he would have been in a position to sound himself correctly on the subject matter.
But he preferred to remain passive on such an important issue. Moreover it seems this is his attitude in most issues that arise in our locality since I have taken over the mayorship of the locality.
The question of consultation referred to in the letter is subject to interpretation, and this has already been clarified in previous articles. I made myself very clear that I had been summoned at the ministry by Mr Delia, and my only response to him was solely to the contents of the questionnaire referred by the executive secretary and myself. This was clarified more than once.
Perhaps it is Mr Holland who is now trying to hide the real issue because he is feeling the guilt and recrimination of his lack of response and participation on this important matter.
It is useless trying to turn his guns on me, as I have acted responsibly and gave my reactions to the questionnaire and included considerations which were not catered for and which were related to the social aspect of the residents of Floriana and their relatives who visit them.
Regarding the last paragraph of his letter, I would answer by saying “people in glasshouses should never throw stones”.
