Welcomevents: two wrong hard facts

MaltaToday last Sunday ran a report on government’s decision not to award the tender for the special stage that has to be built for the CHOGM opening ceremony at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.
The article reported “The stage is part of the tender obligations for organisers Welcomevents, a commercial offshoot of Where’s Everybody…” In one sentence the article got two hard facts wrong. First, Welcomevents has nothing to do with the construction of the stage. The stage is government’s responsibility. That is why a call for tenders was issued, a call we did not even bid for. We did not even bid for the second call when the first one fell through.
Secondly, it is not true that Welcomevents is ‘a commercial off-shoot of Where’s Everybody’. Welcomevents is a consortium made up of three equal partners – Nexos Lighting Ltd, NnG Promotions and Where’s Everybody.

Lou Bondì
Chairman, Welcomevents

Editorial note: The story highlighted the fact that the second tender for the construction of the stage was withdrawn leading to a hiccup in the CHOGM event, which Welcomevents is obliged to organise the opening event. A minor comment in the report refers to Welcomevents as an offshoot of Where’s Everybody, which is neither derogatory or demeaning, but simply describes how a company or business idea has developed.
