Thanks to Fr Colin Apap

We, residents of Hal Farrug, wish to thank His Excellency the Archbishop of Malta Joseph Mercieca, for sending us Fr Colin Apap as rector of Hal Farrug Hamlet. We have witnessed an emerging community, well united, under the leadership of a priest who dedicated his time, his money and his talents for the improvement of an “abandoned” village. In a short time we saw Hal Farrug changing rapidly – with 350 families and 190 more families to be added soon.
Before we did not have an identity and a sense of belonging. During these last years we formed the Pastoral Council, collaborated intensely with the Luqa Local Council, improved our roads and set up new shops, increased the meetings of formation for all sectors of society from toddlers to adults. We worked as a team.
Thanks to Fr Colin Hal Farrug found its vocation to host so many people, beginning with those who left the Church for some reason or otherwise. Everyone was welcome. We used to admire his smile in greeting newcomers to our church. Hal Farrug residents had their children instructed in the catholic religion in Hal Farrug saving them the hassle to travel to other parishes. These catechism classes run by volunteer teachers helped cement the unity among the younger generation and their parents. The formidable team of teachers, social workers, volunteers all contributed to the betterment of Hal Farrug. The residents of Hal Farrug did not even dream of, let alone that it would happen. Fund raising activities were held from time to time for the upkeep of this small chapel which was getting smaller and that is why we agreed that a community centre including a church should be build. The well-known Architect Prof Richard England designed this church complex free of charge! He himself came to talk to the residents because he was so enthralled by the enthusiasm and dedication he saw in this small community. Men like Richard England saw the potential of Hal Farrug residents and helped one and all to give an identity to the new-born village. This project was discussed with the relevant authorities, civil and ecclesiastical, and it was such an honour for us that even the Prime Minister took a personal interest in the project.
We the community of this village wish to show our appreciation and thanks to Fr Colin Apap for his sterling service which he dedicated with great boldness.
We do understand that the archidiocese has its priorities in allotting priests to their various tasks. We are sure those who will experience the services of Fr Colin will benefit from his dedication and committment. But since now Hal Farrug has achieved a sustained development we are looking forward for another rector who will continue the building of our community. We look forward for a sustained effort in the Hal Farrug Pastoral Council, the amelioration of our premises, the continuation at Hal Farrug of catechism classes and the catechists group, who were doing sterling work free of charge and for the love of our children.
We are asking the Archbishop to send a Rector to continue with the sterling work that Father Colin Apap was doing in the Hamlet of Hal Farrug. Let’s continue to join forces to build a truly united christian community. We have seen a rebirth of the old Hal Farrug. Not only in the buildings but much more in the sense of belonging among so many of our residents.
