In the article Dr Mallia state that “without the presence of the police, no criminal cases can be heard… why summon the people to testify… when the police and courts already know that during CHOGM it will be impossible for them to hold a sitting?”
It is to be pointed out that on the 10 and 13 September 2005 the Police informed both the Law Courts and Local Council Tribunals respectively, to postpone all sittings between the 22 and 28 November to a later date.
Following our letter, the Hon. Chief Justice immediately circulated the Police letter to all Judges and Magistrates and suggested to them not to appoint new cases which required the presence of the police on dates in question and if any cases were already appointed same were to be deferred to another date.
The Local Tribunals also informed the Police that no sittings would be held between the 22 and 28 November. It is therefore now in the prerogative of the relative department to inform the public accordingly.
In the same article the writer further stated that “...the Friday of the Conference, traffic will be precluded from entering Valletta… tell us: how traffic will be effected...” As has always been the case for similar events the Police will publish a notice of all the traffic arrangements in place at the appropriate time and date.
