In her article last Sunday entitled ‘Kultura Rock’, Dr Anna Mallia decided that it was her duty to inform your readers that more than half of the places on the first night of each opera are taken by the sponsors, BOV. Maltese audiences, she argued ‘will only be able to book for the leftover seats’.
For the information of your readers and the general public, while the Manoel Theatre is proud to have BOV as its sponsoring partner in the Opera Festival, ticket arrangements are nowhere close to what Dr Mallia quoted.
I would like to take this opportunity to encourage local audiences coming from all walks of life to make it a point and attend an opera at the Manoel next March. Verdi’s Rigoletto will be performed on the 15 and 17, while Rossini’s ‘Il Barbiere di Siviglia’ will be staged on the 21 and 22.
It is such a waste of time when one has to write to correct total inaccuracies written by a columnist. If only people check their sources and the facts before shooting from the hip.
