Experts to thrash out Malta property bubble danger

The Deloitte Annual Conference, taking place at the Intercontinental hotel on 1 December will be assembling an exceptional gathering of experts in a panel discussion with a mission to nail down the question of whether Malta is in fact experiencing a bubble in property prices - and, if so, what event or events might trigger the bursting of such a bubble.

The panel includes:
John Hackett, from HSBC, who’s previous position at HSBC was Head of Retail banking for the Western & Wales Division of HSBC UK and today heads the Personal Financial Services in Malta. Amongst various other duties, Mr Hackett is the top person responsible for home loans at HSBC;
David Felice, Vice-President of the Chamber of Architects and Civil Engineers, a prominent Maltese Architect and design consultant, with years of experience in residential and commercial property development.
Francis Vassallo, of Francis J. Vassallo & Associates, a financial consultant, and former Governor of the Malta Central Bank. Mr Vassallo has also experienced first hand a property bubble during his days with Chase Manhattan Bank in Switzerland.
Frank Salt, former President of the Association of Real Estate Agents in Malta and owner of Frank Salt Real Estate, certainly one of Malta’s longest established and experience real estate agents.
Harry Vassallo, Chairperson of Alternattiva Demokratika who has well expounded views on rent reform and how this could affect property prices.
Raphael Aloisio, a Deloitte partner, and leader of the Deloitte Real Estate Industry Group who has a strong hands-on feel for the dynamics of the property development sector.
Clearly the reason Deloitte put together such a diverse panel is to ensure that the issue is tackled from all perspectives.
The conference will be held at the InterContinental Hotel, St Julians on 1 December, 2005. For enquiries please contact Caroline Cassar Reynaud via email conferences @deloitte.com.mt or tel: 21345000. Booking forms can also be downloaded from the Deloitte Website www.deloitte.com.mt.
