On 14 November at 1.30pm I proceeded to the local rubbish skip at Marsalforn, Valley Road area to discard a small bag (4 inches by 8 inches) of rubbish. Both skips were full to capacity as usual – in fact, plastic bags and other trash was scattered around the skip area, which is not an exception.
I placed my little rubbish bag on the piled rubbish in the skip which, in my humble opinion is quite normal. At that very moment two green wardens approached me and informed me that I was being warned for dirtying the environment. According to their logic, since the skips were full they implied that I should have walked to Qbajjar since two additional skips are also available to dump my rubbish. For the individual that is not familiar with Marsalforn, Qbajjar is about a twenty minute walk from Valley Road’s parking area.
I was prudent enough to discard my rubbish in an available skip instead of leaving it outside on the curb since rubbish collection has not been available since October.
The anxious wardens should have contacted the proper authorities to empty the skips instead of inconveniencing taxpayers. I would think it is their duty to make sure that skips are always available to satisfy demand. Green wardens should be educated and trained that cleaning the environment is also accomplished by their initiative and take measures to make certain proper rubbish/cleaning services are being provided and enforced.
