GWU protest without MLP approval

Labour party sources told MaltaToday that the union’s unilateral decision to organise a protest went against the party’s unofficial strategy ‘not to rock the boat during CHOGM’.
“They played into the hands of the Nationalists,” an irate senior Labour official told MaltaToday. “We are on a high,” the source said. “Organising a protest at such a delicate time will only be used by the PN media and the PN-supporting media to hit out at Labour.”
Nevertheless the GWU’s protest was heavily advertised on Super One Radio and Labour top leaders including Alfred Sant were seen at the protest itself.
When asked why Alfred Sant went for the protest, the source said that once the union had announced its intentions publicly there was no going back.
