There cannot be a better certificate for our country than the quick sale by auction of luxurious BMWs. The Prime Minister is proved right when he says that there are people in Malta who are very rich. Equally right is the Leader of the Opposition when he says that there are many people who are getting poorer very quickly. This example of the BMWs shows that Mr John Citizen accepts to lend his life savings at a pittance to the banks. The money is borrowed by the very rich to buy the luxury cars on bank credit very quickly. In the process the poorest, in whose name the auction is held, benefit when they receive part of the sum of the cars auctioned as charity; the very rich benefit because they can add another luxury car to their collection; the banks benefit because they earn interest on easy borrowed money from Mr Citizen; and both the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition are proved right in their respective arguments.
