I refer to the article by James Debono on local councils’ debts (27 November 2005), wherein amongst other things you stated that the Pietà local council owed the sum of Lm127,093 as at 31 March 2005.
This is correct, however, lest somebody should get the wrong impression and question my council’s liquidity: allow me to point out that the figure of Lm127,093 includes the unpaid balance sum of Lm67,023 for the reconstruction of Mimosa Street and P. Xuereb Street, which was financed by the Malta Transport Authority (ADT). In fact the figure for debtors of Lm82,306 includes the sum of Lm75,000 owed to the council by the ADT. The council’s creditors amount to Lm60,070 which includes the short term portion of the loan from APS Bank to purchase the council's offices.
I take pride in the fact that the Pietà local council is one of the most dynamic councils on the island, which has managed to generate alternative income from that given by the central government. In fact we actually pay back the government a large portion of what the government has passed on to us in its budget, when one takes into consideration the rent paid for the Pietà car park and the VAT generated from what is collected from our parking facilities in and outside the hospital.

Mayor, Pietà local council
